Sir Ivan has kindly agreed to come and provoke a roundtable discussion concerning Brexit, the current negotiations, and the impact which he feels it may have on the UK and the European Union, all under Chatham House Rule.
Sir Ivan Rogers KCMG is a former senior British civil servant, and Treasury official who was the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the European Union.
Following the Brexit referendum in June 2016, Sir Ivan became a key civil servant in the negotiations to leave until his resignation last year.
Sir Ivan has had a rich career which has included serving as: Private Secretary to Kenneth Clarke (Chancellor to the Exchequer); Director of European Strategy and Policy; Director of Budget and Public Finances under Gordon Brown; and succeeding Sir Jeremy Heywood as the Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tony Blair. From 2006 Sir Ivan enjoyed a successful career heading the UK Public Sector Groups at both Citigroup and Barclays Capital. His return to the civil service in 2011 saw him assume the roles of the Prime Minister’s Adviser for Europe and Global Issues and the Head of the European and Global Issues Secretariat, finally assuming the role of Senior British diplomat at the EU.
