The government has now committed to a full statutory public inquiry into the Covid-19 pandemic. This is the first of a series of podcasts by QEB Hollis Whiteman looking at the topic of a public inquiry into Covid -19 from a variety of perspectives.
We start with the medical profession. In this podcast we will discuss the pandemic-related issues that the medical profession feels are most prominent. We also look at some of the concerns which the medical profession has about how a public inquiry might operate, and the problems it might cause for doctors who participate in it.
The podcast is hosted by Thomas Coke-Smyth of QEBHW. Our speakers are Selva Ramasamy QC, also of QEBHW, and Professor Pali Hungin OBE.
Professor Hungin was the President of the British Medical Association in 2017. He is Emeritus Professor of Primary Care and General Practice at Newcastle University and was previously the Dean of Medicine at Durham University. He is the lead of the Changing Face of Medicine commission at the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges, which brings together representatives from the medical profession, patient groups and commercial organisations to explore the role of the doctor in the future.
