"Earlier today The Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales handed down judgement in the confiscation appeal brought by Munaf Zinga, following his conviction for a multimillion pound fraud on Virgin Media's cable television network secured by Chamber's members David Groome and Ari Alibhai.
In dismissing the appeal the LCJ ruled that a private prosecutor was able to engage and apply the confiscation provisions under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. It was further recognised that private prosecutions, particularly in the field of intellectual property infringement, were on the increase and in the "overwhelming majority" of such cases, inevitably furthered the public interest."
