The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the international governing body for athletics, launched an investigation in September 2018 into allegations that its president, Lord Coe, had misled MPs over when he first heard about allegations of corruption and doping by Russian athletes.
The governing body began the investigation after the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee published a report critical of Lord Coe’s responses to questions about how much he knew about doping allegations when he appeared before the committee in December 2015.
The investigation found that there was “no evidence such that there is any realistic prospect that any disciplinary case could be established that Lord Coe intentionally misled the parliamentary committee.”
Sir David was instructed in this matter by the legal department of the Ethics Board – now the Athletics Integrity Unit – of the IAAF.
