We are delighted to be participating in the 10,000 Black Interns (10KBI) scheme for a second year running. We warmly welcome our 2023 intern, Jessica Otu. Jessica is a law student at Lancaster University and one of 25 successful Bar interns taking part in the scheme this summer.
The initiative, which is supported by the Bar Council, offers black graduates and students in higher education a six-week paid internship, sampling a variety of practice areas across the Bar. The scheme is specifically designed to provide opportunities for young Black people who are interested in the Bar of England and Wales.
This continues to be a unique initiative for the Bar. Mini Pupillages are highly sought after. The more sets that participate, the more internships will be available - which in turn means more access to our profession for black people, who are currently under-represented within its ranks.
We encourage other Chambers, Bar organisations and our wider network of solicitor colleagues to consider participating in the 10KBI scheme. Fallon Alexis is a member of the 10KBI Bar steering group. She would be pleased to speak with anyone interested in knowing more about the 10 KBI scheme.
