B was charged with robbery, possession of a knife and grievous bodily harm following a robbery which took place in an alleyway off the Bath Road in Slough at around 9.30pm on 22 November 2022.
Mr B denied the charges, asserting that two of the Prosecution’s witnesses (JS and TK) had planned a robbery, and while he had gone along with them, nothing had been stolen from the Complainant. Mr B further denied having or using a knife.
During the trial Charlotte Godber cross-examined the Complainant, who had failed to identify Mr B in an identification procedure. Charlotte also cross-examined JS and TK, who were brought to court following a defence witness summons for their attendance. CCTV evidence of events immediately before and after the incident was played to the jury. Charlotte revealed, through careful analysis of that CCTV, how JS and TK had planned the robbery, and that Mr B had been telling the truth about certain important details.
Telephone messages, obtained by the defence team, demonstrated that the Complainant and JS had been in communication after the incident, with the Complainant tipping off JS and TK when he knew the police had identified them as suspects.
The jury unanimously acquitted Mr B of all counts.
Charlotte Godber was instructed by Sue Head of Reeds Solicitors.
