R v Ronald Bassett-Cross (2013)

Roger Smart led Karen Robinson in a successful prosecution of a professional trustee.

The professional trustee dishonestly managed the affairs of four trusts thereby depriving the beneficiaries of nearly £200,000.00 they were entitled to receive, was sentenced to 2 years imprisonment.

Following a long and highly complex inquiry by the City of London Police, Ronald Bassett-Cross entered 'guilty' pleas in respect of all 4 trusts with which he dealt dishonestly. In sentencing him at the Central Criminal Court, the Recorder of London said that this was a 'complex case that required considerable analysis before you could see it for what it was'; it was a 'classic breach of trust that had lead to loss and misery that the trust was designed to protect'. The fraud was 'professionally planned and executed'.
