R v Harris (2014)

Zoe Johnson QC successfully prosecuted Dean Harris for killing his girlfriend’s daughter.

Harris was convicted of the murder of the two year old in November 2013. He accepted that he had kicked her but denied that he was guilty of murder. The pathological evidence revealed that her liver had been torn in two. She had also suffered a number of bruises on and around her face and bite marks to her cheek and arm which the prosecution suggested were inflicted by Harris before he murdered her. Harris killed the two year old because he was so angry that she had repeatedly soiled herself. Sarah Racqueman, the girl’s mother, will be sentenced for the neglect of her two surviving children. Sentencing will take place in July.
