Sentence for two counts of misconduct in a public office more than halved by the Court of Appeal.
Nadesh Karu, having not been instructed at the original sentencing hearing, successfully appealed to the Court of Appeal against the sentence imposed in relation to two counts of misconduct in a public office by a serving police officer.
The overall sentence was found to be manifestly excessive and was reduced from 18 months’ imprisonment (comprising four months for the first count and 14 months for the second, to be served consecutively) to eight months’ imprisonment in total. The sentences on both counts were significantly reduced and made concurrent to each other.
The Court expressed the view that they hoped that this would result in the immediate release of the Appellant.
