Met Police officer Wayne Couzens pleaded guilty to the murder of Sarah Everard at an earlier hearing and was today sentenced to a whole life term.
Ms Everard was walking home from a friend's house in Clapham, south London, at about 21:30 BST on 3 March when she was abducted. Wayne Couzens' choice of victim was random but the attack was premeditated. He used the knowledge he had gained from working on Covid patrols in January and his Metropolitan Police-issue warrant card to trick his victim under the guise of a fake arrest for breaching coronavirus guidelines.
The case has attracted national press interest. Please see here and here.
