Two QEB Hollis Whiteman barristers appeared on opposing sides in a Medical Practitioner Tribunal Council Fitness to Practise Hearing. Zoe Johnson QC defended.
Zoe defended Dr M in respect of allegations of misconduct relating to the delivery of twins in December 2012 when Dr M was a specialist trainee registrar in obstetrics and gynaecology at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. Dr M also faced allegations of misconduct in respect of evidence she gave to the Coroner's Inquest which followed the death of one of the twins.
The tribunal found that Dr Mohan’s fitness to practise as a doctor was not impaired. The charges that Dr M had inappropriately managed the birth of twins and subsequently lied about the delivery to the Coroner were dismissed at the close of the case for the GMC. The doctor had previously admitted lapses in her communication skills during the stressful delivery of twin two. The tribunal found that although these amounted to misconduct they were not serious enough to affect her registration.
