Philip Stott represents psychiatrist in prison death inquest.
Between 5-14 July, an inquest into the death of Adam Peterson was held at the Kingston-Upon-Hull Guildhall. Mr Peterson took his own life whilst an inmate at HMP Humber. Philip Stott represented the prison psychiatrist who had seen Mr Peterson in consultation a few hours before Mr Peterson was found hanging in his cell. The jury’s conclusion was that Mr Peterson took his own life while the balance of his mind was disturbed. Although the jury found that there were failings in respect of general mental health provision in the prison at the time, no responsibility for the death was attributed to the psychiatrist.
Counsel was Instructed by Rachel Sloper of the Medical Defence Union.
