Anne Whyte QC acted for the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police in an Article 2 inquest. Ms Akhtar had been fatally stabbed by her husband. The family maintained that the CPS and Greater Manchester Police had failed to respond to previous complaints of domestic violence, and that had they done so, the husband would have been arrested earlier and he would not have been at liberty to kill Ms Akhtar.
Anne also appeared in subsequent civil proceedings against the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police for damages brought by Ms Akhtar’s infant.
Counsel was instructed by Siobhan Mullins of Clyde & Co.
