HHJ Bing today made a multi million pound confiscation order against Munaf Zinga, the Director of Rayyonics Ltd. Zinga was prosecuted by David Groome and Ari Alibhai (Instructed by Wiggin LLP) on behalf of Virgin Media Limited, who mounted a private prosecution at Snaresbrook Crown Court which concluded with his and a co-defendant's conviction in June 2011. Zinga designed, manufactured and imported the Eurovox series of television set-top-boxes, which, when programmed, enabled access to the entire Virgin Media subscription television service without payment. Zinga sold approximately 400,000 set-top-boxes in a conspiracy spanning some 3 years. The learned Judge, who had presided over the trial, determined Zinga's criminal benefit to be in excess of £11.8 million and ordered him to pay the "recoverable amount" which he assessed to be £8.7 million, within 6 months.
