Acting for a consultant psychiatrist said to have taken “kickbacks” for referring patients to private hospitals.
The case arose from a Sunday Times “hidden camera” investigation. The investigators had used leading language to lure the doctor into making some unguarded remarks, which were then reported out of context. Following extensive written representations as to the unfair approach the newspaper had taken, the GMC closed the investigation with no further action.
