Overview
Gabriel joined chambers in September 2024 and was called to the bar by Lincoln’s Inn in October 2023, his pupil supervisor is Philip McGhee.
Experience
Before starting pupillage, Gabriel worked as a paralegal within a London borough council. In this role, he prosecuted a wide range of criminal regulatory offences in the areas of trading standards, planning enforcement, private sector housing, environmental protection, and more. Gabriel’s responsibilities included legal research, drafting, advising client teams directly and conducting a range of hearings in the magistrates’ court. In addition to this, Gabriel worked on complex anti-social behaviour matters and premises licensing cases; he regularly acted as the legal advisor to licensing sub-committees.
Gabriel has worked as a research assistant to Professor David Ormerod KC (Hons) on numerous projects relating to the criminal justice system. Notable projects explored the "presumption of reliability" of computer evidence in the wake of the Horizon IT scandal and trial in absentia in the Crown Court since the 2002 House of Lords decision in R v Jones.
Gabriel’s other legal experience includes providing pro bono advice and representation to appellants with the Free Representation Unit. Additionally, he has volunteered with Detention Action – supporting individuals detained in immigration detention centres.
