Tim has experience of financial crime in various roles throughout his career. His experience spans internal reviews, investigation pre-charge, trial and appeal stages. Tim has been instructed by individuals, investment banks and commercial entities in relation to fraud, bribery and corruption, Trading Standards, confiscation and regulatory breaches. He has been instructed to advise a US investment Bank in relation to allegations of bribery and corruption; he was instructed by a European Commercial Law Firm where he advised on Legal Professional Privilege on an investigation for fraud; he assisted a Financial Services firm in Jersey with an internal review, and he assisted the FCA with a civil regulatory action against a land investment firm operating as a collective investment scheme. Tim has a wealth of knowledge of disclosure and laws of legal profession privilege.
Following his studies at Harvard University, Tim worked at Citigroup as an Equity Finance Trader and was latterly seconded to the FCA. He is able to use his commercial experience and understanding of both criminal and civil processes to advise companies and professionals facing investigation and charge or to advise and represent prosecuting authorities looking to bring proceedings.
Tim has an in depth understanding of the gambling industry and previously sat on the Sports Betting Integrity Forum and Sports Betting Group. He understands Gambling Commission processes having liaised with them through these organisations and can advise companies and individuals on regulatory compliance as well as investigations.
As an employed barrister at the BHA Tim was Head of Regulation and the Director of Integrity and Regulation at the governing body, responsible for the management of the integrity and regulatory legal functions including compliance and safeguarding.

This includes those charged with careless driving and failing to provide, mitigating on behalf of clients pleading guilty to drink driving and insurance related offences. He has developed a depth of knowledge in the field and has advised on the instruction of experts relating to speed, stopping distances and medical evidence for criminal proceedings. Tim has successfully represented companies charged with motoring offences in appeal proceedings at the Crown Court and argued exceptional hardship on behalf of professional clients.

Tim was the Bar Council’s Employed Barrister of the Year whilst employed at the BHA and has experience across many sports and legal areas. A founding member of the Bloodstock Integrity Forum as well as experienced at Board and Executive level, he is well versed in commercial matters as well as sports integrity and safeguarding. Tim sits as an Appeals and Safeguarding Chair for the FAW and as a Judicial Officer for the RFU including the specialist inclusion and diversity panel. Previously instructed by the Premier League, Tim has acted for various governing bodies and athletes across sport and has particular expertise in relation to investigations and disciplinary matters. Regularly requested to present at sports industry events and on expert panels, Tim has lectured in Sports Law on the Sports Management MSc programme at Swansea University.
Tim has long enjoyed a specialist practice in Sports Regulation and Discipline at the Independent Bar. He appeared before the RFU Disciplinary Panel and Appeal Board and prior to his employment there, he was regularly instructed by the British Horseracing Authority to present cases before the Disciplinary Panel, Appeal Board and Licensing Committee. He regularly advised the Premier League in relation to tackling issues of homophobia, sexism, racism and other discriminatory behaviour in football grounds. He assisted a British Olympic Athlete with her appeal against the decision not to select her for the 2012 London Olympics. He represented a high profile boxer before the British Boxing Board of Control in disciplinary and licensing proceedings. Tim sat on the Middlesex RFU Disciplinary Panel as a judicial officer and was appointed to the panel of Football Association of Wales Independent Appeal Chairpersons.
